Participating in the 2024 Jilin University - Rutgers University Philosophy Summer School was a transformative journey that significantly enriched my academic and personal life. My initial goal was to immerse myself in the diverse field of philosophy, to cultivate my critical thinking, and to expand my global perspective. The program not only met but exceeded these expectations, offering a robust curriculum led by distinguished scholars and an environment that fostered rigorous intellectual exploration.

The preparation for this venture was just as enriching, involving an intensive study of philosophical texts, a focused effort to enhance my English proficiency, and proactive engagement with senior students to gain insights into the American academic experience. This groundwork was crucial in helping me adapt swiftly to the new learning environment.

The program's courses were a testament to the depth and breadth of philosophical inquiry, with teaching methods that prioritized engagement and debate. The research opportunities were particularly noteworthy, providing a platform for independent thought and scholarly discourse. The organization of the program was commendable, striking a balance between academic demands and cultural experiences.

My gains from this experience are manifold. I returned with a deeper understanding of philosophical concepts, honed analytical skills, and a renewed passion for learning. The cross-cultural interactions were invaluable, offering a broader worldview and enhancing my cross-cultural communication abilities. The program also instilled in me a greater sense of confidence and adaptability, equipping me to navigate future challenges with greater ease.

Despite the overall positive experience, the program did present some challenges, particularly in adjusting to the different pedagogical approaches. To mitigate such issues for future participants, I suggest the inclusion of preparatory language support and cultural orientation sessions. Additionally, workshops on American academic norms could better equip students for the program's demands.

In conclusion, the 2024 Jilin University - Rutgers University Philosophy Summer School was a pivotal chapter in my academic journey. It was more than an exchange of knowledge; it was an exchange of cultures, ideas, and worldviews that have left a lasting impact on my approach to philosophy and life.
